Sports and Recreation
Achieve and enjoy! At the College, recreation and sports are for everyone.
College of Charleston students have a broad menu of options for recreational activities – some indoors and some outdoors. Our year-round sunshine, the beaches in our backyard, the 10-acre city park right next door and free access to campus athletic facilities all augment what you can do to stay active. Take a run around Charleston's famed Battery, or drop in on a rec class such as Zumba or yoga. If you're up for a game, we've got a long list of options from indoor soccer to racquetball to volleyball to pickup basketball and more.
The staff members at Campus Recreation Services organize flag football, kickball and midnight basketball leagues among other activities. They also run weekend sea kayaking, hiking and climbing adventures. And they oversee 22 sports clubs that will give you a chance to experience and compete in everything from men's and women's Ultimate Frisbee, rugby and soccer to belly dancing, watersports and ice hockey.
On campus, the Johnson and Silcox Centers have basketball, volleyball and badminton courts, as well as an indoor track and squash courts, a dance/yoga studio and weights and cardio equipment. And right in the center of campus, the George Street Fitness Center boasts a 15,000-square-foot fitness facility with cardio and strength machines as well as free weights. There's also the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex across the harbor where you can take sailing classes. It's definitely one of the best collegiate sailing facilities in the country.
And just down the road is James Island County Park, where you can enjoy South Carolina's tallest outdoor climbing wall, run the winding trails or kayak and paddleboard on the lake or nearby river.
