Academics and Classrooms

  1. The complete Fall 2020 Academic Calendar is available on the Office of the Registrar website.

Close connections between faculty and students are at the heart of the College of Charleston academic experience. Our goal is to maintain this point of pride to the extent possible while also providing a safe and healthy environment for all students, faculty and staff.

Department chairs, faculty and academic advisors are working closely with students to optimize their class schedules. One week prior to the start of classes, faculty will make class syllabi available to students electronically.

Fall semester classes, which begin Aug. 25, will initially take place all online. In-person classes will begin on Sept. 14 with a variety of options for a positive student experience. Most classes will be converted to a “blended instruction” format that includes a mix of in-person and online instruction to limit population density in classrooms. These multiple teaching models will help ensure academic continuity and quality while also providing flexibility for our campus community.

Students should NOT expect to be in traditional in-person classes for every meeting of most course sections. Faculty will teach in their assigned classrooms on most days, but with a reduced number of students. Some courses (approximately 20%) will be completely online.
