Green Zone Training

Transitioning from military life to student life can be difficult for student veterans, Green Zone Imageparticularly if they have returned recently from a deployment or just completed their active duty service. Unlike the structured environment of the military, colleges like the College of Charleston have a several colleges, departments and administrative areas that can be difficult to navigate. Green Zone training is designed to give veteran/military students a quick and clear way to identify faculty/staff who have trained to be a resource and ally for veteran/military students. The goal is to make CofC a more veteran/military friendly college.

Training Objectives

  1. Understand who your student veterans are.
  2. Understand where they come from.
  3. Learn about the veteran experience in college.
  4. Learn what you can do to support your student veterans
  5. Familiarize yourself with on- and off-campus veteran resources.

  • Available to assist the veteran/military students
  • Are NOT expected to be experts who can “solve” the problems.
  • A sympathetic ear.
  • Someone who can help the student find the appropriate resources for problem resolution.
