Applying to the College

There are six student types in which you'll fall as a military or veteran student. Most military and veteran students should apply as a transfer student. 

  • Transfer students with more than 12 hours of earned college-level credit
  • Students using Joint Services Transcripts or Community College of the Air Force Transcripts
  • Active Duty students are either degree-seeking or non-degree seeking
  • Readmit students — have attended the College of Charleston before
  • Adult students (21+) looking to complete their bachelor's degree 
  • Second degree students — have already earned one bachelor’s degree

The Military Student Service Center  

The veteran and military student lounge is your place to relax with your classmates or find a quiet place to study. The College also has an active Student Veteran Association where active military, veterans, spouses and family members can support each other during their college experience. 

Academic Support

The College of Charleston recognizes your service by accepting transfer credit hours from the Joint Services Transcript (JST) and Community College of the Air Force.  

  • Eligible students may apply up to 30 transfer credit hours from the JST toward the maximum transfer credits allowed from a two-year institution. 
  • Students who have completed one year of military service in the United States military will be awarded four credit hours of elective transfer credit for the physical education activity course. 
  • Learn more about the military transfer credit policy, or how other courses will transfer, contact the Transfer Resource Center.
