Subject to prevailing conditions Addlestone Library will be physically accessible starting on August 25th during the hours posted at In addition to physical access, virtual access to library services will continue to be available, including research assistance from our librarians/archivists via Zoom and pick up/return of Addlestone Library circulating materials in the Addlestone Library parking lot.

Library capacity and access will be limited. The only entrance to Addlestone Library will be the Rivers Green entrance. To prevent crowding, building access will be limited initially to persons with College of Charleston and Friends of the Library IDs as well as Special Collections and South Carolina Historical Society Reading Room appointments.

All library visitors must wear a face covering, present proper identification, practice social distancing and follow all the directions of College officials. Tables will be spaced six feet apart with one chair per table. Those who do not observe College health and safety protocols will either not be allowed to enter or will be required to leave.

High-touch areas – including the entrance/exit, stair railings, elevators, tables, chairs and restrooms – will be regularly cleaned throughout the day. Deep cleaning and sanitation of all surfaces will be completed each Saturday.

Sanitizing wipe stations will be set up around the library so that patrons can wipe down frequently touched surfaces and objects on their own.

The full College Libraries' plan.

  • Books - Patrons will check out circulating items themselves using a mediated self-service station at the Access & Instruction Desk. Employees will be six feet from the station in order to give instructions; however, they will not be handling the materials.
  • Reserves - There will be no physical reserves in the fall semester.
  • Laptops - Sanitized laptops will be available for authorized individuals by pickup appointment scheduled through the library website, These items will have an extended checkout period of one week to reduce handling.

  • Quarantining Books - Per Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) recommendations, returned library books will be quarantined for 72 hours in a designated area. At the beginning of the quarantine period, all materials will be clearly marked with the date/time.
  • Sanitizing Returned Laptops - Upon return, laptops will be sanitized with Purell(R) wipes or with another CDC or SCDHEC approved product. Once sanitized, the laptops will be put back into circulation.
