COVID-19 Vaccine

I am fully vaccinated* and was around someone who tested positive for COVID-19. Now what?

Please report this on Back on the Bricks as a close contact.

If you are fully vaccinated* and do not have any symptoms consistent with COVID-19, you will not need to quarantine.

*Fully Vaccinated is defined as two weeks or longer after receiving the second dose in a two-dose series (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna) or two weeks or longer after receiving a single-dose vaccine (Johnson & Johnson/Janssen).

My roommate has tested positive for COVID-19 but has not reported this to the College. What should I do?

Please encourage your roommate to report their positive COVID case on Back on the Bricks. You can also report your close contact on Back on the Bricks.

Please note that students who test positive will be required to isolate for 10 days from the date of their positive test. If it is a home-based test, the isolation dates will be based on the date the student self-reports the test to Student Health Services.

What is the College's plan for the administering the vaccine to the campus community?

The College continues to strongly encourage COVID-19 vaccinations.

Students can receive either Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccinations from Student Health Services. Please call Student Health Services at 843.953.5520 to make an appointment.

Will a COVID-19 vaccine be required of students?

No. In accordance with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and S.C. DHEC guidelines, the College of Charleston strongly recommends its students, faculty and staff receive the COVID-19 vaccine. However, please note that a COVID-19 vaccination is not required for any student to enroll or an employee to work at the College of Charleston.

    • Every student, including returning students, should complete the College of Charleston COVID-19 Vaccination Documentation Form. This information is critical to decision-making related to the operation of the school during the 2021-22 academic year.
    • The information entered into the Microsoft form is kept strictly confidential; neither parents nor students will receive an email that indicates their vaccination status – whether vaccinated or unvaccinated.
    • Students who are not vaccinated should consider getting regularly tested using the weekly COVID-19 testing events on campus. Given the social nature and high density of a college campus, public health experts strongly encourage regular testing for those individuals, at a minimum.

As a student, when will the COVID-19 vaccination clinics be held?

Is it possible the vaccine will become mandatory?

We are monitoring the state government regulations in the event the current mandate is changed. We will certainly let the campus community know if anything changes.

What will be administered at the student vaccination clinics?

The College has both the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccines. Students will be able to select the vaccine they wish to receive upon arrival.

Students who receive the Moderna vaccine, which requires two doses, will receive information regarding their second-dose appointments at the vaccine clinic. The Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) requires only one dose.

Is there a fee for the student vaccines?

No. Vaccines are provided at no cost to CofC students. Insurance information will NOT be collected.

I am a student and already received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Can I make an appointment for the second does at the on-campus clinic?

Yes. If you previously received the Moderna vaccine, please select an appointment for a second-dose appointment. Although we are unable to accommodate second-dose Pfizer vaccine appointments, staff at Student Health Services can help arrange for the second dose Pfizer vaccine if needed.

For the student vaccine clinics, can family members, CofC staff or faculty participate in this event?

No, this event is limited to currently enrolled students at College of Charleston.
