About the Center
The Student Technology Center is specially suited for multimedia project work. The center has one Dell PC, and two Macintosh computers with USB 2.0, FireWire ports, and DVD burners. The center also has an analog to digital converter for VHS tapes and DVDs.
These computers have a variety of programs for editing audio, video and images, authoring DVDs, and publishing multimedia projects. For a complete list of hardware and software, contact Frank Hamilton at 953-8090 or email@example.com. For general information or questions contact the Student Computing Support Desk (953- 5457).
One Casablanca Gymnos all-in-one video editing machine is available on the first floor of the library in the main student computing area. The Gymnos comes equipped with DV input (for digital camera footage) and DVD burner.
The Student Technology Center is located on the first floor of the Addlestone Library, room 114. It is adjacent to the Center for Student Learning.
The Student Technology Center is available through reservation only. Please contact Frank Hamilton at 953-8090 or firstname.lastname@example.org. For general information or questions about scheduling contact the Student Computing Support Desk (953- 5457).
A Standard reservation is four hours. Other users may use the facility simultaneously if they are using different equipment. Students who wish to use the Student Technology Center “must” review and sign the Student Technology Center Policy agreement.
Two Sony digital camcorders are available for 24-hour loan. Students must make advance reservation. This is necessary to check availability and to purchase proper storage media. Students signing out equipment from the room “must” sign the loan agreement and present their College of Charleston ID, holding them responsible for damage, theft and replacement of equipment in their possession.
Students must supply their own computer disks, CDs, storage devices and DVDs when using the Student Technology Center. The Bookstore currently stocks at least one of the digital media for camcorders and the Library has a vending machine for the sale of common supplies (pens, notebooks, highlighters, computer disks and DVD's, USB Keys, etc.). The vending machine accepts dollar ($1, $5, $10 and $20) bills and the College of Charleston Cougar Card. It is located on the first floor of the library near the Student Computing Support Desk and on the same hallway as the Student Technology Center.
Assistance in using the Student Technology Center is limited, therefore students may need instruction from professors and must be prepared to work on their own. We have created a number of tutorials to assist you, but we expect users to have some prior training/familiarity with the hardware and software.
Our staff are happy to help whenever possible. If you think you may need assistance in a particular area during your use of the lab, please let us know when you make your reservation.
The Student Technology Center is a collaboration between the College of Charleston Libraries and Information Technology. For information visit: http://www.cofc.edu/it/helpdesk/students/info.html
