Degree-Seeking Applicants

  1. Apply Online (secure site)- After submitting your online application and fee, you should submit all required supporting materials for your program in one large envelope at one time.

  2. If you are unable to apply online, you may contact the Director of Graduate Admissions at hallatts@cofc.edu and request a paper application. The paper application fee is $75.00.

  3. International Applicants: The deadline for completed applications for international applicants for Fall 2008 is April 1, 2008.

 

Non-Degree Applicants:

To apply as a non-degree student, simply submit an application, transcripts from your undergraduate institution and your application fee.

 

 

International Applicants

The deadline for completed applications for international applicants for Fall 2008 is April 1, 2008.

Any applicant who is a non-U.S. citizen wishing to attend the Graduate School of the College of Charleston as a degree or non-degree seeking student is considered an international applicant. All international applicants are required to submit a completed Certificate of Finance form (PDF). A Credential Evaluation Service (PDF), approved by the Graduate School of the College of Charleston, must evaluate all transcripts from international institutions.  For more information about these requirements and copies of all forms, please go to our International Applicant Information Packet (PDF).

International application materials must be received by the Graduate Studies Office by these dates:

  • Fall: April 1

  • Spring: August

  • Summer: January

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

All applicants whose primary language is not English must submit passing scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

For the TOEFL iBT exam, the minimum total score accepted for admission is 81. The recommended section scores are as follows: writing = 20, speaking = 23, listening = 17 and reading = 21. If an applicant's score falls below the recommended minimum in one area but still meets the total score requirement of 81, section scores will be assessed individually in terms of their language adequacy for the program to which the student is applying.

School of Education Applicants

Master of Arts in Teaching

There are currently three M.A.T. degrees offered here at the College of Charleston:

  1. Early Childhood Education

  2. Elementary Education

  3. Special Education

These programs are for prospects that do not have an undergraduate degree or background in education.


To apply for the MAT in either Early Childhood or Elementary, you must provide information as requested in this packet.


To apply for the MAT in Special Education, please complete the forms included in this packet.
You must also submit a general application as well as any supplemental materials requested by the program. You may access a checklist of requirements for your preferred program here.

 

 

Non-Degree Education Applicants:

If you currently hold a valid teaching certificate and wish to advance your teaching credentials, you will need to submit your teaching certificate and an application.

 

Bilingual Legal Interpreting

Applicants must pay an initial application and aptitude exam fee of $150, regardless of the method of application.

Senior Citizens

Please complete the application for Senior Citizen Tuition Status. This program is legislated by the South Carolina General Assembly and made available to qualified students through the College of Charleston Office of Admissions and Adult Student Services. http://www.scstatehouse.net/code/t59c112.htm

Checklists

Print the application checklist for your program of interest and check off each item as you enclose it in the envelope. Follow the directions on the checklist for how to submit transcripts and letters of recommendation. Transcripts and recommendations not received in sealed envelopes or on the correct forms will not be accepted as official.

Miscellaneous Information

Deferred Admissions Policy

If an applicant has been accepted for a specific term and does not enroll for that term, the applicant’s matriculation will be ended and he/she will be obligated to reapply to the program. Applicants wishing to defer initial enrollment must receive the graduate program director’s written approval stipulating a new start date, before the first day of class of the term in which they were originally accepted.

Entrance Exams

Please note that official test scores must be sent directly from the appropriate testing service to the Graduate School of the College of Charleston. If you have unofficial copies, you may submit them with your application packet by mail, but your application will not be considered complete until official test scores arrive.
